The
Ames Rifle & Pistol Club, Inc., has a long tradition of
supporting the shooting sports in the community. In addition to our
Juniors Program Ames has supported the Boy Scouts of America by
providing training for the Rifle Shooting Merit Badge.
Bob
Peoples, a Scout Master and member of Ames has made this program
available to any Boy Scout Troop in our surrounding Councils and
Districts. The program consists of a Safety Course of approximately one
and one half hours. Bob does the safety course at your troop location.
The second phase is rifle practice and scoring at the Ames Rifle
& Pistol Club on Wednesday evenings 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Bob
limits the numbers to a maximum of 8 children per night for proper
safety and coaching ratios. The children can come on Wednesday evenings
as many times as they need to meet the scoring criteria for the Merit
Badge.
After
everyone has shot the required targets and obtained the necessary
scores for the Merit Badge requirement they must then pass a written
test. The written test is based upon the requirements in the Merit
Badge book.
The
cost to participants is the gas to get to Ames and the time necessary
for your child to shoot the required targets. Ames Rifle &
Pistol Club, Inc., provides match rifles and the ammo for the children
to use.
